Watch the I Am Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Documentary

It’s hard to believe that the Street Fighter franchise is 25 years old, and to celebrate this year Capcom released a Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set. Part of that collector’s set was a 72-minute documentary titled “I Am Street Fighter: 25 Years of Inspiration,” created by Area 5.

After some pirated copies crept up on YouTube, Capcom has finally uploaded the documentary in its entirety onto its YouTube channel. The lengthy documentary is a great watch, especially if you grew up playing the series and have fond memories of the fighting game. It’s even better if you’re a current fan of Street Fighter IV and like to play it competitively.

The documentary looks into the history of the game and how it has influenced the gaming world from day one, in addition to how its fans have shaped the community over the years.

Mega Man Devs Launch Kickstarter for Mighty No. 9

Three years ago, Keiji Inafune of Mega Man fame left Capcom to start his own independent studio, Comcept, so that he could devote himself to making the kinds of games he wanted to make. Now one of those games is up on Kickstarter, called Mighty No. 9 and if it reminds you of Mega Man, it should.

The team at Comcept is compromised of veteran Mega Man developers, and its project will be an all-new Japanese side-scrolling action game that blends the best aspects of eight-bit and 16-bit classics with modern technology, fresh mechanics, and fan feedback for something amazing.

In Mighty No. 9, you’ll play as Beck, the ninth in a line of powerful robots and the only one that isn’t infected by a mysterious computer virus that caused other mechanized creatures to go crazy. Mighty No. 9 will borrow from the Mega Man series the ability to use weapons and abilities stolen from your enemies.

Mighty No. 9 is being developed for PC and will be available through Steam and DRM-free digital distribution methods. It’ll have gamepad support, and ports to consoles and other platforms will be dependent on the funding being raised on Kickstarter. The goal is set at $900,000 with stretch goals leaping all the way to $2.5 million which will get gamers Mighty No. 9 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii U.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 Downloaded Nearly 25 Million Times

Plants vs. Zombies 2 arrived Apple iOS devices on August 15, 2013 and it has already been downloaded nearly 25 million times according to PopCap Games. That means that downloads for the Plants vs. Zombies sequel has already surpassed total lifetime downloads for the original game.

The developer released an infographic detailing some of the data it’s gathered since the game’s release which includes that 39-billion suns have been generated from players, over 5.4-billion zombie waves have invaded, and over 10-billion plants have been planted.

What’s most impressive? Over 81-million hours have been played collectively across all the players, which PopCap Games confirms is the same amount of time it takes to shuck 18-billion ears of corn.

GODUS Beta Heading to Steam Early Access on September 13

GODUS beta will see its first public release on September 13, when the game heads to Steam Early Access for $19.99. GODUS is being developed by 22cans and is Peter Molyneux’s reinvention of the god game genre. Molyneux is the man responsible for other god games such as Dungeon Keeper, Populous, and Black & White. He is also the one behind Theme Park, the Fable series, and 22cans’ first creation Curiosity – What’s Inside the Cube?

While Curiosity wasn’t exactly a game, GODUS will be, allowing players to take on the role of a god. In GODUS beta, players will be able to sculpt every inch of the world that they’ll look down on while a population of followers settle in and procreate. Players will control every aspect of their unique utopias and as a result, a civilization will grow throughout the land. Naturally, the more followers that believe in you, the more powerful you become.

GODUS will also offer multiplayer, allowing players to challenge other gods and their civilizations in epic multiplayer battles.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix Trailer Shows Off Card-Based Gameplay

The newest Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix trailer has been released, showcasing footage from the card-based gameplay in Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories and the newly remastered cinematic story videos from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix will be released on September 10, 2013 for the Sony PlayStation 3 and also includes Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, which was previously exclusive to the Japanese market.

The two-in-one-disc package will only feature HD cinematic story videos from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, but the full game of Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories is included along with Kingdom Hearts Final Mix. As you can tell from the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix trailer, Square Enix not only redid both titles in beautiful HD but has implemented enhanced gameplay mechanics and PlayStation 3 system trophies.

The Last of Us Patch 1.03 Live with Multiplayer Fixes, New Interrogation Mode

The Last of Us Patch 1.03 is now live, with the game’s multiplayer getting some major updates. The new patch adds a new multiplayer game mode called Interrogation, which is a 4v4, two-part objective mode where rival factions fight to locate and open the opposing faction’s lockbox in order to steal the supplies inside. Each team must first achieve five interrogations of players on the other team.

Players are able to acquire interrogations by shivving the enemy, or getting an opponent into the down state. Once your team collects five interrogations, your enemy’s lockbox will be revealed. Then it becomes a race to access and open the lockbox before the other team can obtain five interrogations and open yours. The winning team is the team that opens the opposing team’s lockbox first.

The Last of Us also had some minor single-player fixes for the “It’s me” and “By any means” cinematics in the Cutscene Viewer. You can view a full list of all the multiplayer fixes as part of The Last of Us Patch 1.03 below.

Nintendo Upcoming Release Dates for Q4 2013

If you’re a Nintendo fan, you have a lot to look forward to until the end of this year. The company has announced the upcoming release dates for several games for the Nintendo Wii U, 3DS, and now 2DS.

As we mentioned before, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will be released on September 20 for digital download at $49.99, while the physical copy will hit stores on October 4. Joining that title in September will be Rayman Legends on September 3 and Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure on September 24 for the Wii U, 3DS, and 2DS.

The month of October will be kicked off with Just Dance 2014 on October 8 for the Wii U, while Skylanders SWAP FORCE will hit stores on October 13 for the Wii U, 3DS, and 2DS. Sonic Lost World will be released on October 22 for the Wii U, 3DS, and 2DS, while Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will be available for the 3DS and 2DS on October 25. Closing off the month of October is Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag on October 29 for the Wii U.

November will be the biggest month for Nintendo releases for the Wii U, 3DS, and 2DS. Call of Duty: Ghosts will be heading to the Wii U on November 5, while Watch Dogs will also come to the home console on November 19. The 3DS and 2DS then gets Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON’T KNOW on November 19. Then a trio of first-party titles will be released on November 22: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for the 3DS and 2DS, Mario Party: Island Tour for the 3DS and 2DS, and Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U.

The only announced December release at this time is Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for the Wii U on December 6.

Games promised for this holiday season, but currently have no announced release dates, include Wii Fit U, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games for the Wii U, and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril for the 3DS and 2DS.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Wii U Bundle Official

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Wii U bundle has become official and will launch on September 20, 2013 with a suggested retail price of $299.99. The bundle will include a 32 GB black Deluxe Wii U console, a GamePad controller that has been decorated with gold lettering, a gold Hyrule crest, and gold symbols from the game, a download code for the digital version of Hyrule Historia, and a code that can be used to download The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD from the Nintendo eShop.

Those hoping to get a physical copy of the game with the bundle is out of luck. Nintendo has announced that the physical copy of the game won’t arrive in stores until October 4, 2013. For patient gamers that really want to hold something in their hand, the physical copy of The Wind Waker HD will come with distinctive gold-foil packaging and will retail at $49.99 (same price as digital download).

In addition, GameStop will be getting an exclusive Ganondorf figurine bundled with the physical game at a suggested retail price of $54.99.

Nintendo 2DS Announced, a 3DS Minus One Dimension and a Hinge

Today, the Nintendo 2DS was announced to the world, a slate-style handheld that is essentially a 3DS, but doesn’t play games in 3D. In other words, perhaps Nintendo is rethinking its whole 3D strategy. Interesting enough, the company also did away with the clamshell design, making us wonder where or how this would fit in anyone’s pocket.

But then again, perhaps Nintendo is trying to appeal to the mobile market of tablet users with its 2DS. It’s not like anyone ever has any concerns about an iPad fitting into your pocket. The Nintendo 2DS will be available starting on October 12, 2013 (same day as Pokemon X and Pokemon Y) in red or blue and will be priced at $129.99. It will be able to play all 3DS games and DS games, and Nintendo will also be releasing a carrying case in matching colors for $12.99.
