LEGO Minifigures Online will be released in the second half of 2014 for the PC, iOS, and Android platforms, Funcom has announced. Funcom’s previously released MMORPGs include Age of Conan and The Secret World, but obviously LEGO Minifigures Online will be a lot more light-hearted and less serious than the developer’s previous creations.
LEGO Minifigures Online will be based on LEGO minifigures line of real-world toys, which is why you see a Halo character in the trailer below. Other figures part of the line of real-world toys include characters from the X-Men, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Lone Ranger franchises.
Toys purchased will include a code to download a virtual version as a playable character in LEGO Minifigures Online, allowing players to collect around 100 characters in all. You will be able to swap between three playable characters at any given moment in the game.
A revenue model for LEGO Minifigures Online hasn’t been announced, but considering it’s heading to mobile, a subscription-based model is unlikely.
