Now that the Nintendo Wii U is getting a permanent price drop to $299.99 on September 20, early adopters are wondering if Nintendo will do a Wii U Ambassador program, like the company did for its 3DS early adopters. Unfortunately, Nintendo currently has no plans for a similar program for the home console.
The Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program was launched for those that purchased the handheld console before August 12, 2011. The 3DS was originally released on February 26, 2011 in North America and saw a price drop from $249.99 to $169.99 less than six months later on July 28, 2011. As a result, Nintendo gave its 3DS early adopters 10 free Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) games and 10 free Game Boy Advance games from the Nintendo eShop.
The Nintendo Wii U was released on November 18, 2012 in North America and will see the price drop effective on September 20, 2013. Given that the console has been on the market for over 10 months before its price drop, it’s no real surprise that Nintendo isn’t considering a Wii U Ambassador program.
