Tropico 5 Screenshots Reveal El Presidente’s Next Journey

A series of Tropico 5 screenshots, which were shown to the media at Gamescom 2013, is now available for the public to enjoy. Tropico 5 was first teased almost two weeks ago and will be heading to the PC and Xbox 360 in April 2014.

The popular dictator sim series will see its newest entry travel through a new timeline, starting in the Colonial era and bringing the island of Tropico into the present, and maybe even the future. There will be plenty of new gameplay features, including cooperative and competitive multiplayer. In addition, this journey won’t be made by El Presidente alone, but rather you’ll be building a dynasty. Each member of El Presidente’s extended family will be present on the island and can be appointed key leadership positions.

Though these screenshots release today are from a pre-alpha build of Tropico 5, you can already see how gorgeous the game looks in its early stages. According to its developer, Tropico 5’s artwork has been reworked to give the title a distinct historic visual identity. Players will be able to choose from over 100 unique buildings from each of the individual eras.

Xbox One Cloud Infographic Details 300,000 Servers

Microsoft is proud of the 300,000 servers it’s bringing for its next-generation console. The company has released an Xbox One cloud infographic detailing the benefits of an online gaming world.

When Microsoft first unveiled its Xbox One console earlier this year, the company envisioned a future where all gaming could take place online and digital downloads would be the way of the future. After an outcry by consumers on the Xbox One’s 24-hour online check-in and DRM policies, Microsoft did a reversal and even removed the Kinect requirement from its next-generation console.

But that doesn’t mean gamers can’t benefit from the 300,000 servers the company as put into play for its Xbox Live service. The Xbox One cloud infographic highlights what gamers can expect from the next-generation Xbox Live, promising evolving worlds in games that support them. Microsoft also states that the servers are in globally distributed data centers with one of the world’s largest fiber networks.

It’s unfortunate that the Xbox One is only launching in 13 markets initially, having globally distributed data centers and all.

FFXIV: ARR Director, Producer Naoki Yoshida Issues Emotional Apology

While this should be a joyous celebration for the hard-working Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn team, the MMORPG’s relaunch hasn’t been that smooth. North American and European servers have been plagued with issues, so much so that some players didn’t even get a chance to log in once during the head start process. But the thing is, the team working on A Realm Reborn, led by director and producer Naoki Yoshida, has done a fantastic job rebuilding the game from the ground up to what can be considered a great MMORPG, even for seasoned veterans of the genre. For those that have been following the entire process, you’d know that Yoshida has been very passionate about the game and has participated in many of the beta phases himself as well as competing against fans at Gamescom 2013 on the primal Ifrit battle.

Needless to say, the team is just as disappointed at the server issues as the players. After three years of hard work, they simply want players to enjoy the game and the world they’ve created. Instead, they’ve been listening to forum post after forum post of players that aren’t even able to log in. It’s one thing to believe that Square Enix redeveloped Final Fantasy XIV to make a cash grab, but it’s another thing when you see how much dedication has been poured into the project by its team.

During the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn launch event in Tokyo, Yoshida took to the stage to remember the three years of hard work, and issued an emotional apology for all those that were unable to play the game. And for those that still really want to play the game but haven’t been able to, be patient – it will be worth it. We feel that the best has yet to come for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, so long as Yoshida remains as producer. When was the last time the producer of a game formally issued out an emotional apology after a botched launch? Some other producers have taken more… interesting approaches in recent years.

Sony has announced on its blog a 2013 PAX Prime Indie Games Sale, which puts a huge discount on several games that were shown at previous PAX Prime events. PAX Prime in Seattle is just around the corner, starting on August 30 and running through September 2, but you’ll be able to snag discounts on these games starting tomorrow. The indie games sale offers 11 games on sale with up to 65 percent off if you’re a non-PlayStation Plus member. PS Plus members can receive up to 75 percent off on select titles.

Highlights tot he sale include the first two episodes of Penny-Arcade Adventures On the Rainslick Precipice of Darkness ($3.75 for PS Plus members), Journey ($3.75 for PS Plus members), and Skullgirls ($3.75 for PS Plus members).

Hot Tin Roof Heads to Kickstarter

Hot Tin Roof is now on Kickstarter, being developed by indie developer Glass Bottom Games. Enter a noir mystery as Emma Jones, taking on the role of private investigator on a string of grisly murders. Search for clues in a 3D side-scrolling world while being accompanied by your faithful feline sidekick, Franky. The game will feature a wide range of cartridges for your revolver including grapple shot, blood splatters, trackers, knockbacks, and more. As Glass Bottom Games explains it, Hot Tin Roof is “Metroidvania-esque,” just with more of the Metroid and less of the vania. Besides, it has a cat that wears a fedora, who doesn’t love a cat that wears a fedora?

You can check out the Hot Tin Roof Kickstarter to support the great folks at Glass Bottom Games. The title is currently being developed for PC, Mac, and Linux, but the team hopes to bring it to PlayStation 4, Apple iOS, and Google Android… and maybe the Nintendo Wii U. Full List of 100 Confirmed PlayStation 4 Games

Last week, Sony announced its PlayStation 4 launch titles which will consist of 15 physical titles that will be available by December 31, 2013 and a total of 33 games available through the PlayStation Store by year’s end. At the time, Sony also revealed that there are over 140 PlayStation 4 games currently in development for the next-generation console, with SCE Worldwide Studios developing over 30 exclusive titles. A dozen of those SCE Worldwide Studios’ games will be brand-new IPs to the PlayStation franchise. Now, a compiled a list of 100 games that have been confirmed for the PlayStation 4 has been released, which you can view in its entirety below. It’s worth noting that while many of these games will make an appearance next year, there are some notable ones that probably will not including Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III.

Xbox One Gamescom 2013 Showcase Briefing

Xbox One has gone through a lot of changes since it was first announced, and the team still had plenty more to show off at this year’s Gamescom event. Oddly enough however, Microsoft and the Xbox One team opted to not have a press conference but rather a private showcase briefing for invite-only attendees. At the private event, Microsoft gave a sneak preview on what’s to come with its next-generation console, which is now being shared through a video online.
