Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn had 150,000 concurrent users during the open beta, and now the live game reached a peak of 187,000 concurrent players, setting a record for a game operated by a Japanese company. It’s been well documented that the MMORPG’s relaunch has been plagued by server issues, perhaps with Square Enix underestimating the amount of people that would want to play the game. But with 187,000 concurrent users, that’s a number to boast about. In fact, the company believes it’ll peak at 200,000 in the near future once its servers are upgraded and digital sales of the game resume.
Yesterday, Square Enix announced that digital sales for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn would be halted until it can get its servers upgraded. Even its producer and director, Naoki Yoshida, issued out an emotional apology for all those that were impacted during the game’s head start. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was officially released on August 27, 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and PC. You can still obtain physical copies of the game from a participating retail store.
