Ryse: Son of Rome, an Xbox One exclusive, will have microtransactions for its multiplayer mode. The microtransactions are being compared to Mass Effect 3‘s multiplayer unlocks, and FIFA: Ultimate Team packs, where players can purchase packs with either in-game currency or real money to upgrade their character’s gear.
As for Ryse‘s progression system for multiplayer, it will be armor-based and players can earn gold while playing multiplayer to purchase booster packs. Of course, you could just pay more and play less in order to get your hands on better items. What does make the system different in Ryse however is that you can simply pay for what you can’t afford with in-game gold, rather than having to purchase a pre-determined gold amount.
In an interview with VideoGamer.com, a Microsoft producer explained the system: “Say for instance a gold pack costs 15,000 gold, you’ve only got 12,500 you can actually buy the difference and only spend a little bit to make it go to a Gold Pack. So we offer some variety there.”
The interview also revealed that players will have a variety of customization options for their gear, with stats changing based on what the player wants to do. Whether it’s to farm money or experience, there’s plenty of ways to change and customize your gear. It appears that Ryse has sprinkled a bit of action RPG itemization into its title.
Ryse: Son of Rome will be available as an Xbox One launch title. Microsoft recently released a new trailer for the title, showcasing its online Gladiator Mode.
