Ten games are heading to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog in August, and it’s a pretty stacked lineup. Helldivers 2 kicks things off worldwide today, August 12, for Extra and Premium members, with most of the rest following on August 18. The staggered regional rollout Sony started testing back in June is still running, though, so five of this month’s titles are dated August 25 in the U.S., the UK, and Japan.
Helldivers 2 leads on PlayStation 5, Arrowhead Game Studios’ co-op shooter about spreading peace, liberty, and Managed Democracy across a galaxy that keeps objecting to all three. You and up to three friends drop in with the biggest and most explosive tools Super Earth can hand out, and friendly fire is always on, which is either the best or worst part depending on who you play with. Sony is timing the Game Catalog launch to coincide with a big new game update, and it’s the only title this month available globally today.
Following on August 18 is Kingdom Come: Deliverance II on PlayStation 5, Warhorse Studios’ medieval RPG that puts you in the boots of Henry of Skalitz as he moves from a blacksmith’s forge to the court of kings. The open world recreates 15th century Bohemia in the middle of a civil war, and the game has been a genuine commercial success for Warhorse, passing six million copies sold in June. The studio has since confirmed a Middle-earth RPG and another Kingdom Come game are in the works.
Vampire Survivors joins the same day on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the gothic horror bullet heaven that turned an entire subgenre into a Steam tag. The pitch is still the same as it was at launch, where you survive against hundreds of monsters and let your build snowball until you become the bullet hell yourself. Poncle has kept the support coming with Legacy of the Bloodmoon, and the studio also spun the formula into a deckbuilder with Vampire Crawlers.
The August 25 wave for the U.S., the UK, and Japan starts with Hell is Us on PlayStation 5, a third-person action-adventure from Montreal’s Rogue Factor. You play as Rémi, a United Nations peacekeeper who goes absent without leave in a country torn apart by civil war, searching for his missing parents and running into chimaeras along the way. The game took Best Game Design at the 2026 Canadian Game Awards, where Elias Toufexis also won Best Performance for his work as Rémi.
Also dated August 25 in those regions is Umamusume Pretty Derby – Party Dash on PlayStation 4, a pixel-art party game built around the Slapdash Grand Prix. Four teams of five compete across Hurtling Hurdles, Blazing Baskets, Dodgeball Demolition, and Gourmet Gauntlet, with plenty of wacky rules thrown in. I mentioned in our Steam Replay 2025 post that Umamusume: Pretty Derby (different than Party Dash) topped my most-played list for the year, though mostly because I tend to leave it running in the background.
Management sim fans get Two Point Museum on PlayStation 5, the third entry in a series that started with hospitals and has been steadily expanding its scope. You send partially trained experts out on expeditions to dig up artifacts, then design the exhibits around whatever they bring back, assuming they come back. Two Point Studios announced the jump from hospital to museum back in 2024, and we covered the studio’s first game in our Two Point Hospital 2HR review.
Post-apocalyptic shooter fans will want Metro Exodus on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, which trades the tunnels of the earlier games for a continent-spanning journey across the Russian wasteland. 4A Games structured it around non-linear levels and a story that runs through spring, summer, and autumn before landing in nuclear winter, all drawn from Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novels. The series continues with Metro 2039, which is set for February 2027.
Rounding out the Extra and Premium additions is Dying Light 2 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, which is a slightly strange inclusion given that the Reloaded Edition is also part of August’s PlayStation Plus Monthly Games. In our Dying Light 2 review, we came away disappointed, pointing to janky combat, a disjointed story where the branching narratives didn’t hold together, and bugs still showing up at pivotal moments a year after launch. If the sequel is what soured you on the series, Dying Light: The Beast is the one we’d point you toward instead.
PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers get two classics this month, starting with Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Originally released on PlayStation 2, it follows Soki, the Oni of Ash, as he takes on the Genma forces rampaging through Japan after Oda Nobunaga’s death. Capcom has been busy with the franchise lately, with Onimusha: Way of the Sword moving up three weeks to September.
The other Premium addition is Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, first released on the original PlayStation and now enhanced with up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters. You join Milo Thatch and his team of experts as they head below the ocean surface to find the lost empire, dodging whatever is lurking down there. It’s the kind of deep cut the Premium classics catalog exists for.
