Vampire Survivors is getting a new expansion called Legacy of the Bloodmoon, which developer poncle revealed during today’s Future Games Show Summer Showcase. The studio is billing it as the darkest expansion to date and the evil twin to the game’s first add-on, Legacy of the Moonspell, leaning into a grim story about a doomsday cult. It’s due out this summer on PlayStation, XBOX, Switch, mobile, and PC, basically everywhere Vampire Survivors already is.

The expansion centers on Clan Bloodmoon, a cult chasing the footsteps of Saint Baal’Thasar, who founded the Order of the Red Moon and vanished on a pilgrimage in search of eternal life. That setup brings 10 new characters, including the ruthless matron Malice Bloodmoon, the axe-swinging brute Calogero, and the long-lost founder Baal’Thasar himself. Their hunt leads to Red Moon Manor, a new XL stage built as the Order’s hidden fortress and the one major location the pack adds.

On the gameplay side, Legacy of the Bloodmoon adds more than 16 new weapons and evolutions, ranging from Malice’s paralyzing Scarlet Needle to the screen-clearing Incineration and the reality-tearing Blacken Firmament. There’s also a weapon simply named FireBall, which poncle pokes fun at in the game’s usual tongue-in-cheek style, plus eight new music tracks to round out the soundtrack. It keeps up a steady run of post-launch content for the 2022 roguelite, which has stacked up crossover collaborations and free updates over the years.

The expansion is poncle’s latest move in a busy stretch for the studio, whose most recent release was the deckbuilding spin-off Vampire Crawlers. We came away mixed on that one in our review: an easy recommendation at $9.99, but a more basic experience than we expected, with the pull fading well before we were done.
