Sony has three games lined up for PlayStation Plus members in August, and there’s a good variety as usual, running from co-op zombie survival to a cooperative walking adventure to solo survival horror. All three are available from August 4 until August 31. Leading things off is Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, which casts you as Aiden Caldwell, a wanderer moving through a city where a virus has turned most of the population into monsters and the surviving factions are already at each other’s throats. Aiden’s abilities come at a cost, and he’s carrying memories he can’t quite decipher, with the whole campaign playable in up to four player co-op so you can see how differently other people’s choices played out.
In our Dying Light 2 review, we came away disappointed, pointing to janky combat, a disjointed story where the branching narratives didn’t hold together, and bugs still turning up at pivotal moments a full year after launch. That review ran in February 2023, though, and the Reloaded Edition didn’t arrive until February 2024, bundling more than a dozen updates, the Firearms Update, and the Bloody Ties story DLC on top of reworked parkour, combat, and night gameplay. If the sequel is what soured you on the series, Dying Light: The Beast is the one we’d steer you toward, since it excels where Dying Light 2 stumbled.
Next up is Big Walk on PlayStation 5, a cooperative multiplayer adventure from House House, the Melbourne studio behind Untitled Goose Game and Push Me Pull You. You and up to 11 friends set out across a wide open world full of challenges, puzzles, and discoveries, staying in contact through an assortment of tools and toys and working out new ways to communicate when you suddenly find yourselves speechless. There’s no obligation to be productive about any of it either, since you can sit and watch the sunset or steal a friend’s binoculars and kick them into the ocean. It also hits PlayStation Plus the same day it launches, so members are getting this one day one.
The one built for playing alone is Signalis on PlayStation 4, a survival horror game from German studio rose-engine that originally released back in 2022. You play as Elster, a technician Replika who wakes from slumber and goes searching for her lost partner and her lost dreams, working through a surreal retrotech world of terrifying secrets, difficult puzzles, and nightmarish creatures. It sticks close to the classic survival horror template, and the whole thing stays tense and melancholic, trading jump scares for cosmic dread.
Members also get a MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls PlayStation Plus Pack starting August 6, which stays claimable all the way until August 6, 2027. It holds five Avatars based on Captain America, Storm, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, and Ghost Rider, plus a set of Result Screen Character Poses covering 20 characters, including Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, and Peni Parker. You’ll find it in the PlayStation Plus section of the PlayStation Store on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 or through the PlayStation Plus web page, and it has to be redeemed and downloaded before anything shows up. The Avatars land in the Avatar section of your profile, while the poses are only selectable in the PlayStation 5 version of the game.
With the August lineup going live on August 4, PlayStation Plus members have until August 3 to add July’s Monthly Games to their library.
