Onimusha: Way of the Sword is now launching on September 4, 2026, three weeks ahead of its original September 25 date, Capcom has announced. The swordplay action game arrives on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store, with preorders open now. The new date is a bit of a reversal from Capcom’s own messaging in late June, when retailer listings sparked rumors of an earlier launch and the publisher responded with a promotional image insisting September 25 was still the date.
As part of the change, the existing preorder bonuses are being reworked into Early Adopter Bonuses, and anyone who picks up the Standard, Deluxe, or Premium Deluxe edition before September 24 will receive them. The base rewards are the Lion Dog charm and the Sealed Curse sword appearance, while Deluxe and Premium Deluxe buyers also get a White Monkey charm and a White Lion sword appearance. Full details are on the official Onimusha: Way of the Sword website.
For those who want to try the game before September, a demo is out now on the PlayStation Store, XBOX Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, and save data from the demo earns you a Kubi Akari charm when the full game arrives. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the first new mainline entry in the series in 20 years, following Miyamoto Musashi as he takes the Oni Gauntlet to the Genma invading Edo-period Kyoto, with the series’ signature Issen and Soul Absorption mechanics in tow. We got a look at the winged Genma boss Dohatsu-ten at last week’s Capcom Spotlight, and the Switch 2 version adds optional Joy-Con 2 motion controls for sword swings and bow aiming. If you’d rather catch up on the series first, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny got a remaster back in May 2025.
