We’ve been hearing the rumors about a Warhorse Studios Lord of the Rings game for months, and now the Czech developer has confirmed there’s actually more to the story. In a post on X, the team behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance II announced two projects in development: an open world Middle-earth RPG and a new Kingdom Come adventure. No platforms, no release windows, and no details on either beyond that. Warhorse says it’s “excited to tell you more when the time is right.”
Warhorse going from a meticulously researched medieval Bohemia to Tolkien’s fantasy world is the bigger leap of the two announcements. Warhorse called this a “Middle-earth” game and not a Lord of the Rings game, which leaves the door open for the team to explore corners of Tolkien’s world beyond the familiar Third Age beats that most adaptations stick to.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II launched in February 2025 and quickly cemented itself as one of the best RPGs of the year, so news of a new Kingdom Come project is a welcome continuation of that universe. There’s no indication yet whether this is a true sequel, a spin-off, or something smaller in scope, but it’s good to hear Warhorse isn’t abandoning the franchise that put it on the map.
