Metro 2039 now has a release window, with developer 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver debuting the game’s first gameplay trailer during the XBOX Games Showcase. The roughly three-minute trailer, captured entirely in-game, points to a February 2027 launch and offers the first proper look at the next entry in the Metro series. It follows the game’s earlier reveal and its April first look, narrowing what had been a winter window down to a specific month.

The trailer centers on Hunter, introduced as the Metro’s new Fuhrer, a figure the studio says has flooded the underground with lies and propaganda to seize ultimate power. On the gameplay side, it shows the return of close, claustrophobic stealth-action, tunnel and surface exploration, the series’ established mechanics, and its diegetic survival elements. It also gives a quick look at new gear, including a stealth weapon called the Shatun and a new breaching charge.

As for the story, the Metro has fallen under a powerful new regime led by Hunter, once a fanatical Spartan leader and, before that, a legendary high-ranking Ranger sworn to protect the tunnels. The game’s protagonist, the Stranger, is consumed by anger at the Fuhrer’s lies and hypocrisy, and views what is left of the Spartan Order as a ruin of what it once stood for. Where the Spartans were seen as selfless protectors, the Stranger has come to believe Hunter has become the very enemy they once fought.

Metro 2039 is set to launch in February 2027 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC. The PC release runs through Steam and the Epic Games Store, where the game is available to wishlist now.
