Someone has to pour the ale while everyone else is off slaying dragons, and Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern hands you that job. Announced today by publisher Dotemu and developer Homo Ludens, the standalone management sim casts you as an innkeeper building a cozy, ale-stocked haven for adventurers, and it launches on PC in 2027.
The game is set in the Dalelands, a wild, ancient, and fertile stretch of Faerûn, the same continent Baldur’s Gate 3 calls home. Starting from a humble roadside rest stop, you’ll grow your establishment into a bustling, must-visit inn while meeting a cast of characters with strong personalities, unique expertise, and personal interests. The tavern is more than a place to rest, though, since heroes find their next quest at your bar: you assign challenges based on each party’s composition, and your decisions influence how those quests end. As the PR cheerfully puts it, don’t risk your life slaying the dragon, just feed the fools who try and quietly profit from their spoils.

Running the place covers plenty of ground beyond quest-giving. You’ll cook, brew, and experiment with exotic ingredients to discover new flavors, unlocking an ever-wider menu that helps heroes recover between outings, with complex recipes key to accommodating patrons across many species and classes. Coin earned from weary travelers funds upgrades and expansions, customization options let you decorate with artifacts and mementos honoring your best customers, and a rival innkeeper shows up along the way to keep you sharp. There’s also the small matter of surviving the dinner rush when orders for hot meals and cold pints start piling up.
Long Rest Tavern is a change of pace for Dotemu, the publisher behind Absolum and MARVEL Cosmic Invasion, which has built its recent reputation on brawlers and roguelites. As I said when Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes got its release date, Dotemu has been on a tear lately as a publisher, so a D&D innkeeping sim is an interesting swing for a company on a hot streak. The game is available to wishlist on Steam now, with no word on consoles, so PC is the only stop on the itinerary for the time being.
