Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember now has a release date of March 4, 2027, on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and XBOX on PC, and it will be available day one with XBOX Game Pass. Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja announced the date on September 15 alongside a new trailer and the start of preorders, narrowing the early 2027 window the sequel got at its reveal during the XBOX Games Showcase in June. A free Alpha Demo went live the same day on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Steam, and XBOX on PC, with no Switch 2 version, and it runs until September 30.

The demo drops players into the open field of Changban to fight alongside Liu Bei’s army against the pursuing forces of Cao Cao, with demons drawn from Chinese classics mixed in, and it includes an in-progress character creation system along with online multiplayer for up to three players. Anyone who finishes it gets the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet to use in the full game, and Koei Tecmo is running a survey at the end to collect feedback.

The story picks up in 208 AD after the events of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, with the protagonist’s village destroyed by Cao Cao’s forces as they march on Jing Province. Seeking revenge, the protagonist clears a path for Liu Bei before heading to Jiangdong to join Sun Quan and reunite with their friend Pang Tong, who devises a plan to stop Cao Cao at the Red Cliffs. Combat keeps Wo Long’s mix of attack and defense and adds Insight Skills, which are used to evade attacks, turn the terrain into counterattack opportunities, and shift momentum when outnumbered, and the trailer shows the protagonist taking fights into the air. The battles themselves play out across open fields that recreate the Battle of Changban and the Battle of the Red Cliffs, with mountain fortresses and valley strongholds to explore, and enemy officers can be recruited to weaken the opposing side.

Preorders are open for the standard edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition, the latter bundling the base game, the Season Pass, the Creator God Armor Set as a Season Pass bonus, and three extras in a Digital Artbook, a Digital Mini Soundtrack, and a Shitieshou Hat, with physical editions also up for preorder. The game will ship with Japanese and English voices and text in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish, and for anyone catching up on the original first, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition arrives on Switch 2 this month.
