The remastering experts at Aspyr have announced their next project: Deus Ex Remastered. Set to launch on February 5, 2026 on all platforms, the game made its premiere during today’s State of Play. The original, which launched in 2000 on PC before heading to PlayStation 2 in 2002, is a beloved title that spawned a franchise that many wish would make a modern return. While this may not be an all-new entry, fans like me will take what we can get to see JC Denton return with modern visuals.
If you’ve seen other Aspyr remasters, like Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2, and Tomb Raider, you know what to expect with Deus Ex Remastered. The developer focuses on keeping the overall foundation intact but finds ways to enhance the experience so it feels as revolutionary today as it did in 2000. Obviously we’ll be getting a visual upgrade with the title, but each location has also been brushed over with new lighting, dynamic shadows, particle systems, and upscaled textures. Also new to this version are rebuilt character models, lip-synced dialogue, and good ol’ ragdoll physics.
Aspyr is also known for fine-tuning control schemes, and Deus Ex Remastered won’t be any different. The original release was designed for keyboard and mouse, and even though it was ported to PlayStation 2, it struggled to capture the same precision found on PC. As a result, Aspyr has optimized the control scheme from the ground up so it feels intuitive and responsive with a controller. Part of this comes from designs found in Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided, such as radial menus, fluid weapon management, and more streamlined navigation overall.
For those unfamiliar with the Deus Ex franchise, the original is set in 2052 when societies are teetering on collapse, with plagues spreading unchecked and shadow governments shaping the future. Players take on the role of JC Denton, a nano-augmented UNATCO operative who has been tasked with protecting order. The adventure takes Denton all around the world, from New York to Hong Kong, Paris to Area 51. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say Deus Ex inspired Cyberpunk 2077, as it really does give off similar vibes.
It’ll be interesting to see if Deus Ex Remastered sticks to the February release date, though, as it’s already a very crowded month with Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, Mario Tennis Fever, Resident Evil Requiem, Nioh 3, and Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties.
