Koei Tecmo America and developer Team Ninja have announced Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, a sequel to their dark Three Kingdoms action RPG now in development for an early 2027 release. The reveal arrived during the XBOX Games Showcase with the game’s first action trailer, offering an early look at the follow-up to 2023’s Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. It continues the series’ dark, demon-filled take on the Three Kingdoms era that defined the original.
Wo Long 2 is set in the late Eastern Han period, when warlords contend for supremacy and the heroes of the Three Kingdoms begin to emerge. Players take on a nameless champion, framed as a phoenix rising from the fires of war, fighting across vast battlefields against powerful enemies and fearsome fiends. The sequel tasks players with mastering evolved Chinese martial arts and conquering Three Kingdoms battlefields overrun by monstrous demons, fighting alongside renowned heroes from history.
The sequel marks the latest from Team Ninja, the studio behind recent action titles like Nioh 3 and Ninja Gaiden 4. Koei Tecmo says the original Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has now surpassed five million players worldwide, and to mark the announcement, the publisher has brought that first game back to XBOX Game Pass starting today. Players who pick it up there can revisit the original ahead of the sequel’s early 2027 arrival.
Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember is currently in development for a worldwide launch in early 2027 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam and XBOX on PC. It will be available day one with XBOX Game Pass and supports XBOX Play Anywhere across XBOX Series X|S and XBOX on PC.
