Ever since Resident Evil Requiem’s debut at Summer Game Fest 2025, Capcom has delivered a masterclass in marketing. Over the next few months leading up to the game’s launch in February 2026, Resident Evil Requiem kept drip-feeding news to players, with presentations, new trailers, and exciting announcements, including the confirmation that Leon S. Kennedy would serve as a second protagonist in the game. It also picked a great release date, as there wasn’t too much competing with it on February 27.

So, it’s no surprise that Capcom has confirmed Resident Evil Requiem has sold over five million units worldwide. The launch on PC was strong too, considering the game peaked at 344,214 concurrent players on Steam alone. At the time of writing, more than 137,000 people are playing it right now. To put that into perspective, the Marathon Server Slam, which was free for everyone to access, peaked at 143,621 concurrent players on Steam. Granted, it’s likely Marathon will see a bigger player base on console, but there are millions who also bought Resident Evil Requiem on console, including on Switch 2.

It’s a great way to celebrate Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary, which takes place this month. As of December 31, 2025, the Resident Evil franchise has cumulatively sold over 183 million units. Surely, Resident Evil Requiem is going to be a big contributor to adding to that total figure over the next few years.
