For the first time in the series, Planet Zoo players can build aquariums and aviaries for aquatic and flying species, with Planet Zoo 2 out today on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC. Frontier Developments locked in the October 13 release date earlier this year, and the sequel arrives almost seven years after the original Planet Zoo launched on PC in November 2019. As the newest Conservation Coordinator for the Fauna and Ecosystems Network (FEN), players are tasked with conservation on a global scale, with over 130 animals to care for across zoos and wildlife reserves. Frontier also released the Rebirth Expansion for Jurassic World Evolution 3 and Planet Coaster 2’s Parades update in June.

According to Frontier, Planet Zoo 2 has the most true-to-life animals in the series so far, with higher fidelity fur, feathers, and scales along with more authentic behaviors. Players will need to meet each species’ unique needs by building habitats and exhibits inspired by their natural environments, and the new aquariums and aviaries are fully customizable. Frontier’s piece-by-piece building tools return along with its terrain tools and the Frontier Workshop, where players can share their creations. There’s also a new first-person camera that lets players walk around their own zoos and reserves, as well as creations from the wider community.

Conservation extends beyond the zoo in Planet Zoo 2, with projects around the world that have players restoring Wildlife Reserves and releasing the animals they’ve raised into the wild. Across Career, Franchise, and Sandbox modes, players can build a global network of zoos and reserves, trade animals with other players, and work together on community goals. The new Planet Hub keeps track of that entire network in one place. Pricing hasn’t changed since Frontier’s official announcement, with the Standard Edition at $49.99 and the Deluxe Edition at $64.99, which adds the Deluxe Upgrade Pack with six extra animal species and a set of exclusive animal signs.
