It’s been nearly seven years since Planet Zoo first opened its gates, and Frontier Developments is finally ready to talk about the sequel. Planet Zoo 2 lands October 13, 2026, on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC, and the two marquee additions are both new to the series: aquariums and aviaries.

The aquatic side is where a lot of the novelty lives. Fully aquatic species are making their debut, with Black-tipped Reef Sharks, Hawksbill Turtles, and shoals of fish among the freshwater and saltwater animals on offer. Aquariums aren’t just tanks you drop into a corner, either. They’re fully customizable habitats with control over scenery and placement, and you’ll have to keep them running with filtration systems and an airlock for staff to get in and out.

Then there are aviaries, which house fully flying birds, including the Toco Toucan and the Secretary Bird, and like aquariums, they’re editable down to the scenery. The new wrinkle is support poles, which let you generate habitat covers with a click, and guests can walk through suitable aviaries for a closer look.

Conservation also reaches past the front gate this time. Beyond running the zoo itself, you’ll take on projects around the world, reviving Wildlife Reserves and releasing animals back into their natural habitats. It’s a bigger version of the conservation hook the first game leaned on.

Frontier confirmed Planet Zoo 2 runs $49.99 for the Standard Edition and $64.99 for the Deluxe Edition, which bundles in the Deluxe Upgrade Pack with six extra animal species and a set of exclusive animal signs. Anyone who preorders gets the Bonus Content Pack at launch, with a Toucan Eat Shop and signage, three unique animal donation bins, and a Tiger Photo Stand-In Wall.

Frontier is calling this its most advanced zoo sim yet and pitching a generational leap in animation and behavior. We won’t have to wait long to learn more, either. Planet Zoo 2 is set to show up at Wholesome Direct on June 6 and the PC Gaming Show on June 7.
