Phantom Blade Zero has sold over four million copies across PlayStation 5 and PC in its first 72 hours, according to developer S-GAME, which shared the milestone on the game’s official social media account. The wuxia action RPG launched on October 28 at 7:00 PM Pacific (10:00 PM Eastern), which was October 29 in Beijing, as a digital-only release on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. S-GAME didn’t break the figure down by platform.

On Steam alone, Phantom Blade Zero reached an all-time peak of 775,647 concurrent players on October 31, per SteamDB, and it was still sitting above 530,000 players at the time of writing. The game currently holds a Very Positive rating with over 62,000 user reviews, roughly 89 percent of them positive. For some context, Black Myth: Wukong sold 10 million copies in its first three days back in August 2024 and peaked above two million concurrent players on Steam, though a big chunk of that came from China. Phantom Blade Zero has been compared to Black Myth: Wukong as the next major Chinese action game since its 2023 reveal, and I said when covering the August State of Play that it’s been one of the most anticipated action games since then.

Phantom Blade Zero was originally set for September 9 before S-GAME delayed it to October 29 at June’s State of Play, saying it wanted to launch the strongest version of the game rather than rely on post-launch patches. Development was already complete when preorders opened in August, alongside an 11-minute trailer that revealed Donnie Yen as both creative consultant and the face of Soul’s father, Mó Yuan. The game is priced at $59.99 for the Standard Edition and $69.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition, and a PlayStation 5 physical release is still planned for 2027 in Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions, the last of which includes a steel case.
