Just over a year after Borderlands 4 launched on September 12, 2025, Gearbox has published a thank you post to players celebrating the Borderlands franchise passing 100 million copies sold. The series started with the original Borderlands in 2009, and Gearbox notes there aren’t many franchises that have ever reached that number. I went into my Borderlands 4 review with nearly 500 hours across the franchise, more than 220 of them in Borderlands 2 alone, and the best thing I could say about the latest entry was that it’s more Borderlands, which is fine for longtime fans as long as the game runs well for them.

The post also looks back on the Year 1 roadmap Gearbox shared before launch, which delivered two Story Packs, five Bounty Packs, two new Vault Hunters, and several new features and activities over the past year. Gearbox says the team is already working on more Borderlands 4 content for 2027, with Weekly Activity refreshes and Community Challenges continuing in the meantime. The studio is also looking at the franchise as a whole, asking players which characters they want to spend more time with and which stories deserve a payoff, with feedback being collected through social media and the Gearbox Devcast. Gearbox isn’t putting a date on when it will share more, only that big plans take time and it will talk when the time is right.

Starting November 6, Borderlands players can take part in The Hunt: All Aboard!, a community-run scavenger hunt and fundraising event benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital that runs through November 15. The last Hunt raised a record $118,995.80, and this time 2K Foundations, 2K’s social impact arm, and Gearbox will match every dollar donated up to that amount, potentially pushing the total past $230,000.
