Launched on June 10, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 was widely expected to be a sales success despite its $449.99 price tag. The console sold over 3.5 million units in its first four days, and Nintendo has now announced that, as of September 30, 2025, it has sold 10.36 million units. The news comes from the company’s Q2 FY2026 results, with the Switch 2 reporting 4.54 million sales in the quarter. In total, Switch 2 software sales totaled 20.62 million units, which include approximately 8.10 million as part of bundles. Mario Kart World, which is available as part of a Switch 2 bundle, leads the way at 9.57 million units. Donkey Kong Bananza, which launched on July 17, has sold 3.49 million units.

During the same quarter, the original Nintendo Switch, which also got a recent price increase, still sold 1.89 million units, bringing the grand total to 154.01 million. Software sales for the Switch dropped 12.4 percent year-over-year to 61.56 million units.

After a strong first half of the year driven by the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch, Nintendo has raised its full-year outlook. The company is now targeting 19 million Switch 2 consoles and 48 million units in software for the year. The Switch is set at 4 million consoles, while software is estimated to reach 125 million units for the year.

It’ll be interesting to see the impact of Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s launch on Switch 2 hardware sales, considering the game sold approximately 5.8 million units in its first week after its October 16 release. It was announced that approximately half of those copies were played on the Nintendo Switch 2. I recently rolled credits in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and in my review I found it a bit disappointing despite a better combat system.
