The organizers of the GDC Festival of Gaming have announced the finalists for the 26th annual Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA). This year’s finalists will be honored, and the winners will be announced at the GDCA ceremony on March 12, during the GDC Festival of Gaming in San Francisco. That’s a day after the Independent Games Festival Awards, which unveiled its nominees last week.

While Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, our favorite game of 2025, is missing from the Independent Games Festival Awards, since people like arguing whether or not it’s truly an indie, it’s definitely present at the GDCA. The Game Awards 2025 Game of the Year leads this year’s field with eight nominations, getting a nod in nearly every GDCA category. Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei received five nominations, as the follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, a GDCA 2021 award winner.

All nominees and winners are selected by the Game Developers Choice Awards-specific International Choice Awards Network (ICAN), which is an invitation-only organization featuring game creators from across the industry.

Balatro won big at the 2025 Game Developers Choice Awards, including Game of the Year.
