It’s been 12 years since Granblue Fantasy first launched in Japan for mobile devices and web browsers, and Cygames is celebrating the anniversary by finally bringing the game to Steam. The Steam version launched today, March 10, and for the first time, players outside of Japan can access Granblue Fantasy without jumping through hoops to play through a browser. We covered the Steam announcement when it was first revealed, and the day has finally come for those who have been eager to discover where the franchise all began. Cygames has been on a roll with its properties lately, with Umamusume: Pretty Derby gaining a massive following, and it’s clear the studio is making a bigger push toward global audiences.

The Steam release features a redesigned 16:9 widescreen layout, a major departure from the vertical format used on the game’s original platforms like Mobage, GREE, DMM, and Yahoo. For those unfamiliar with Granblue Fantasy, it’s a turn-based JRPG with deep combat mechanics, elemental strategies, and over 70 classes to experiment with. The game features co-op raids, full voice acting, and a massive roster of characters, each with their own story content. If you’ve played Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising and wondered where it all started, this is it.

There are a couple of caveats worth noting. The Steam version isn’t available in Japan, and players with existing accounts on other platforms won’t be able to link or transfer their data to Steam. You’re starting fresh. The game is available in English and Japanese.

To celebrate the launch, Cygames is running a giveaway on X through March 24 where players can enter for a chance to win a Steam Deck OLED 1TB or an acrylic keychain set. Just follow the Cygames official English account and like and repost the giveaway post to enter.
