Amazon Game Studios is clearly rethinking its plans within the gaming industry. Earlier this year, the publisher confirmed New World: Aeternum’s servers would go offline on January 31, 2027, and now another Amazon Game Studios-published title, King of Meat, is shutting down permanently. This one won’t even get to live as long, as King of Meat’s servers will close on April 9, 2026. What’s even crazier about this announcement is that the game officially released on October 2, 2025.
From developer Glowmade, King of Meat is a co-op party platformer that saw up to four players going up against community-built dungeons filled with puzzles to solve, challenges to overcome, and monsters to fight. The game never got much of an audience at all, and some reports say Glowmade expected to see 100,000 concurrent players for a game that peaked at 320 on Steam. It’s also available on consoles, but it’s hard to imagine it did noticeably better there.
In a statement published on the game’s official Steam page, the team said the game “has unfortunately not found the audience we hoped for.” Because of that, they’re stopping their investment in the game and servers will be shut down on April 9, 2026. Until then, players will be able to access all existing content. Glowmade and Amazon Game Studios are giving full refunds to anyone who purchased King of Meat, and they should expect to see them in the coming weeks.
