Ubisoft has pushed Rayman Legends Retold back two months, moving the remake from its original October 1 release date to December 3. The unusual part is that the game is already finished, technically. In a message posted to the official Rayman account, the development team said the game has officially gone gold, but that it decided to take extra time to make sure every detail gets the care it deserves. Ubisoft didn’t point to any specific issue behind the decision.

Fans won’t have to wait until December to see more of it, though. A Game Overview trailer arrives on September 22, and on that same day a selection of creators and press, including us, will publish fresh hands-on impressions. The team closed the message by thanking players for their patience, support, and trust.

I got hands-on time with Rayman Legends Retold back in June, and I’ll admit I went in skeptical about why a 2013 game whose illustrated artwork still holds up needed a remake at all. My read was that Ubisoft is more interested in growing the Rayman audience than in serving longtime fans first, since there’s an entire generation of players who will never pick up a Wii U-era game no matter how well it aged. I also said the new 3D-like art style doesn’t ooze the same hand-crafted charm as the original, even if it looks great with modern lighting. The level design and variety, on the other hand, were as strong as I remembered, and I still think games like Astro Bot and Super Mario Bros. Wonder wouldn’t exist the way they do without Rayman Legends.

Rayman Legends Retold is co-developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the studio behind the 2013 original, and Ubisoft Milan, and it picked up Best Switch 2 Game at the gamescom Awards last month. It now launches December 3, 2026, on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Ubisoft Store for $39.99.
