After New World: Aeternum announced it would no longer receive new content updates in October 2025, many of us believed the end of the game was inevitable. At the time, Amazon Game Studios said the game would remain playable and that servers would operate through 2026, but it wouldn’t commit to longer than that. Unsurprisingly, the game is getting axed and will officially be taken offline on January 31, 2027. As of today, January 15, the game has been delisted and is no longer available for purchase. Those who already own it will be able to play it until January 31, 2027. The team is also extending the Nighthaven season until that day.

To be clear, once the servers are taken offline, the game will not be playable at all. New World: Aeternum isn’t getting any sort of single-player offline mode. To rub salt into the wound, Amazon Game Studios has made the decision to let players continue purchasing in-game currency, such as Marks of Fortune, until July 20, 2026. The company also confirmed that refunds are not available for purchases of Marks of Fortune. Those who recently bought the game, though, can request a refund through customer support.

We enjoyed New World when it first launched in 2021. I have over 125 hours played, mostly because we had fun as a group while exploring everything the game had to offer. There were some interesting concepts, especially the different factions that reminded me a little bit of Dark Age of Camelot. We never returned to the game, though, so we never saw where it went after launch.
