Back in April, IO Interactive confirmed that 007 First Light wouldn’t launch on Switch 2 alongside the other platforms and would instead arrive later in the summer. Summer is a week from being over, and today the studio delayed the port a second time, this time to March 2027, with an exact date to be announced later. IO says the extra time is meant “to ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect” and will go toward polishing the game’s performance on Switch 2, which is the only reason it gave. The game launched on May 27 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC, so the Switch 2 version will end up roughly 10 months behind.
IO did point to the positive feedback the game received at gamescom last month as a sign of progress across the whole game, and the same demo will be playable at Tokyo Game Show this week for anyone attending. As I said when the first delay was announced, it’s a bit of a bummer for anyone who was planning to play this on Switch 2, and back then the wait was a few extra months rather than most of a year. In my review, I said 007 First Light doesn’t do much that’s mechanically new, yet it feels fresh anyway because you’re essentially playing through a Bond movie, and I never once wanted to put it down. I played on PC and ran into no real performance issues, though, and the game has since gone on to sell over four million copies as of August.
On PC, the summer update IO promised back in May has arrived, with path tracing and DLSS Ray Reconstruction now available in 007 First Light. It comes with a fourth spec sheet, which leaves the existing five tiers alone and adds three new ones for path tracing. The Path Tracing Minimum tier targets 1080p at 60 FPS on the Medium path tracing setting with an RTX 5070, while Path Tracing Recommended moves to 1440p at 60 FPS with an RTX 5080, both on a Core i5-13500 or Ryzen 5 7600 with 16GB of RAM. At the top, Path Tracing Ultra targets 4K at 200+ FPS using DLSS 4.5 on the High path tracing setting, calling for a Core i5-13600K or Ryzen 7 7700X, an RTX 5090, 32GB of RAM, and 32GB of VRAM.
