I’ve been playing 007 First Light since launch, and I really like what I’m seeing. Turns out a lot of other people are too. IO Interactive announced today that the game has sold more than 1.5 million copies in its first 24 hours after launching May 27 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC.

For me, the thing with 007 First Light, at least so far, is that nothing about the gameplay is mechanically new. The combat is third-person action and the stealth is recognizable IO Interactive stealth. The gadget moments are what you’d expect from a Bond game. But somehow the way it all comes together, between the tone, the framing, and the pacing, makes the whole thing feel fresh (especially the opening tutorial). It has me hooked, and I can’t wait to have some extended sessions with it this weekend.

For IO Interactive, this is a strong launch beyond the headline number. The studio has been working on this game for years as its first major project outside the Hitman franchise, with the original Project 007 announcement going all the way back to November 2020. Hitting 1.5 million copies sold in 24 hours is a great achievement, and there’s still the Switch 2 version coming later this summer to add to the total.
