October 14 is the day Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 arrives on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC, a date revealed today in a new trailer that also delivers the first footage of main antagonist Vashtorr the Arkifane. Auroch Digital and Big Fan Games additionally confirmed a Switch 2 version, which launches shortly after the October 14 debut on the other platforms. The sequel stood out as one of the most exciting reveals in our Warhammer Skulls 2025 roundup, where we called the original a surprisingly fun boomer shooter.
The release date trailer also carries a first listen of an original track created for the game by guest composer Mick Gordon, whose credits include DOOM (2016), DOOM Eternal, and Wolfenstein: The New Order. That hire makes sense considering how we’ve described Boltgun from the start: when the original hit PlayStation Plus, we called it a fun romp with the gameplay and visuals of classic Doom, so bringing in the composer behind modern DOOM’s sound is about as on-brand as it gets.
As for the story, playable characters Ultramarine Malum Caedo and Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath travel to an isolated star system to check on reports of increased Chaos activity, and quickly find themselves facing Vashtorr’s wrath. The demigod of inventors, engineers, scientists, and artisans awakens a vast daemonic machine at the center of the planet, triggering a catastrophic explosion that destroys much of the Imperial fleet. From there, the pair race from world to world to cleanse the corruption powering Vashtorr’s machinations and earn a shot at banishing him back to the Warp. As we covered during Warhammer Skulls 2026, Rahul Kohli reprises Malum Caedo while Alanah Pearce voices the Battle Sister, and a playable demo is already out on PC.
Boltgun 2 continues where the original left off, promising unrepentant strafing action and a wider selection of weapons. Fan-favorite enemies like the plague-spreading Nurglings and Chaos Cultists return, joined by all-new threats including the ferocious Bloodletters and their Juggernaut mounts, with Auroch teasing that greater terrors await.
