It’s not the Dissidia game I was hoping for, but I’ll still give Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy a chance when it officially launches next month. Personally, I’m shocked Square Enix didn’t choose to make a Genshin Impact clone with the Dissidia IP, considering it would basically print money if they nailed the formula. But instead, we’re getting this strange 3vs3 Team Boss Battle Arena game where two teams fight monsters while racing one another to see who can defeat the boss faster. It sends some of Final Fantasy’s most famous warriors to modern-day Tokyo, which is also strange in and of itself. But hey, it’s a great way to sell really cute and stylish outfits for Lightning and Cloud.
At the very least, the free-to-play title on Android and iOS should have an amazing soundtrack, as Dissidia games always have. The game’s initial lineup of characters includes Warrior of Light, Kain Highwind, Krile Mayer Baldesion (not Final Fantasy XIV’s Krile), Terra Branford, Cloud Strife, Rinoa Heartilly, Zidane Tribal, Lightning, Gaia, and Prompt Argentum. It’s nice to see some new representatives from the mainline entries, though I imagine we’ll get a larger cast in due time. It’s definitely interesting that several games aren’t represented at launch, notably Final Fantasy X, which is a favorite among many.
There’s no exact launch date yet, but Square Enix did confirm it’ll be sometime in March 2026. The team released the game’s opening cinematic, which shows off the setting, the starting cast of characters, and their stylish modern-day, real-world outfits.
