After dropping a teaser website on October 11, Square Enix has officially announced the next entry in the Dissidia series: Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy. True to Square Enix’s penchant for unusual titles, the upcoming game heads to Android and iOS sometime in 2026. Those who don’t want to wait can register for an upcoming Closed Beta Test on Android, which will run from November 6 to 14 (Pacific Time) for eligible regions in the U.S. and Canada. It’s worth mentioning that the Android Closed Beta Test will only be active between the hours of 7:00 PM Pacific (10:00 PM Eastern) and 12:59 AM Pacific (3:59 AM Eastern) each day. Registration for the Android Closed Beta Test is open through October 28.
Nearly all my guesses were incorrect in terms of the cast and the style of game it would be. My original thought was that Square Enix would chase the Pokémon Go crowd, but that isn’t the case. Instead, Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy features iconic characters from the franchise heading to modern-day Tokyo. The game comes from NHN PlayArt, which is known for Line: Disney Tsum Tsum, Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble, #Compass: Combat Providence Analysis System, and #Compass Live Arena. From the trailer, gameplay looks similar to #Compass: Combat Providence Analysis System.
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is a 3v3 team boss battle arena game in which two teams and roaming monsters fight as each side races to defeat the boss first. It’s a way to blend PvE and PvP without having to directly interact with an opponent. The game will feature a fully Japanese-voiced main story, with short episodes centered around the warriors’ daily lives.
As for the initial cast, we have Kain, Terra, Warrior of Light, Lightning, Rinoa, Gaia, Krile, Cloud, Zidane, and Prompto. All of the characters are shown wearing modern fashion, though there will be unlockable costumes based on their in-game designs.
