Rockstar has confirmed that digital preloading for Grand Theft Auto VI begins on November 10 for PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S, giving players a little over a week to get the download done before the game launches on November 19. The exact start time depends on which console you’re playing on. On PlayStation 5, preloading opens at midnight local time on November 10, so players in New Zealand get going before everyone else. On XBOX Series X|S, it opens globally at 12:00 AM GMT on November 10, which works out to 4:00 PM Pacific (7:00 PM Eastern) on November 9 in the U.S.

As for the download itself, Rockstar says the preload file will require up to 212GB depending on your device, which is roughly a quarter of the usable storage on a 1TB PlayStation 5 Slim. Those going the physical route will have to wait until November 12, when the code-in-box versions for both consoles are expected at retailers. As I covered back in June, GTA VI’s physical version doesn’t include a disc, just a download code. At the time, Rockstar said digital preloading would also begin on November 12 to line up with the boxed release. Today’s announcement moves digital preloading up by two days while the physical date remains unchanged.

Grand Theft Auto VI was delayed twice, first from fall 2025 to May 26, 2026, and then to November 19. After the second delay, I expected the internet to start betting on a 2027 slip. Instead, when preorders opened on June 25, I said it looked like Rockstar was sticking to November 19. Preorders remain open at $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. We ranked the game sixth on our most anticipated games of 2026 list, up from 12th the year before.

Rockstar is also directing players to the official GTA VI site, which has the Extended Look video, in-game radio station previews, singles from Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, the Only in Leonida section, and details on the Ultimate Edition. On November 19, the site will add an official printable cover art poster and a map of Leonida as free digital downloads. A double-sided physical version of the poster will be sold at the Rockstar Store shortly after launch for $0.99 on its own, or included as a free gift with any purchase from the store.
