Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is almost here, and Asobo Studio used gamescom Opening Night Live to debut one final trailer before its August 27 launch. Set to a reinterpretation of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence,” the launch trailer leans heavily into Sophia’s story and the themes of loss, betrayal, and destiny surrounding her journey.

When the release date was announced in June, we learned that Resonance takes place 15 years before the events of the A Plague Tale series and follows a younger Sophia to the Minotaur’s Island. The game shifts away from the stealth-heavy approach of the previous entries with a greater emphasis on melee combat, exploration, and environmental puzzles.

One of the more interesting parts of Sophia’s journey is how it connects back to the wider A Plague Tale story. Alongside the medieval setting, players will experience a parallel storyline set during the Minoan era, uncovering secrets tied to the island and learning more about the origins of the Macula itself. Asobo has already shown everything from coastal environments to underground labyrinths, with the two time periods seemingly becoming increasingly connected as the story unfolds.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches August 27 for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. It will also be available day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass and supports XBOX Play Anywhere. The game’s original score from Olivier Derivière is also available now on streaming platforms, while gamescom attendees can try Resonance before launch at both the Focus Entertainment and XBOX booths.
