EXODUS finally has a firm release date. Archetype Entertainment announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live that its sci-fi action RPG will launch on April 7, 2027, narrowing the early 2027 window it had previously been targeting.

The new release date trailer puts the spotlight on Salt, the Awakened octopus we saw briefly during June’s extended gameplay reveal. Salt is a mercenary and bounty hunter who pilots a specialized combat mech, using long-range sniper attacks, evasive maneuvers, and ink-like smokescreens to disorient enemies. She joins protagonist Jun Aslan as one of several human and Awakened companions players can recruit during the story.

Salt isn’t the only companion getting more attention in the trailer. Emrys, a member of the Celestial species known as the Deva, also fights alongside Jun. The Deva are described as having a plural consciousness, and Emrys fills more of a support role in combat. Their Remnant Orbs can drain and weaken enemies, then redirect that stolen power back to Jun as protection.

The trailer also gives us a little more of Salt’s background through cinematic sequences at its beginning and end, although Archetype is holding back the full version for now. The studio has tied Salt’s Companion Story Cinematic to its ongoing wishlist campaign, with the complete cinematic set to unlock if EXODUS reaches one million wishlists. The game recently passed its first milestone of 500,000.

If you haven’t been keeping up with EXODUS, it’s a single-player action RPG from a team largely made up of former BioWare developers. When it was first revealed at The Game Awards 2023, the whole thing immediately gave me Mass Effect vibes, and what we’ve seen since hasn’t exactly moved it away from that comparison. Players take control of Jun Aslan and travel across the Centauri Cluster while dealing with a particularly nasty consequence of interstellar travel: Time Dilation. Days spent away on a mission can translate into weeks or months passing back home.

EXODUS launches April 7, 2027 for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
