Ubisoft is adding “baguette” outfits for Rayman and Barbara to Rayman Legends Retold, and both will be available to every player at launch on December 3. According to Ubisoft, the outfits are a nod to a fellow game created in Montpellier, where Ubisoft Montpellier is based, and they’re meant as a tribute from one French studio to another. The announcement doesn’t name the game, though Montpellier is also home to Sandfall Interactive, the developer of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which has a Baguette outfit of its own. Ubisoft’s announcement also works in the line “This isn’t a painting, this is reality!” for anyone who still needed a hint.

Rayman Legends Retold is a reimagining of the 2013 platformer, co-led by Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan, with new content and narrative twists on top of the original. It supports four-player couch co-op and includes an improved version of the Kung Foot multiplayer mode. The game was delayed from October 1 to December 3 back in September, and it’s launching on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC for $39.99.

I’ve played the game twice now through remote previews, most recently for about three hours last month, and I came away from that session thinking Rayman Legends Retold will do the original justice, even if the more modern art style loses some of the original’s charm. The game ships with over 70 costumes, and as I said in my second preview, the cosmetics were fun to try on but nothing novel. The baguette outfits join that lineup for all players from day one.
