S-GAME teased “something unexpected” when it dated this trailer last week, and the payoff turned out to be Donnie Yen. The martial arts star appears at the end of the new 11-minute Phantom Blade Zero trailer, which is live now alongside preorders, and the studio confirmed he has served as creative consultant on the game since 2023, bringing his martial arts and action filmmaking expertise to the combat design. Yen also takes on the role of facial and motion capture actor for Mó Yuan, the father of protagonist Soul, with his stunt team contributing to the game’s kung fu.
The extended trailer follows Soul deeper into his journey, with new faces and encounters along the way. S-GAME says what’s shown, including a battle atop a speeding wagon and a clash with former comrades like The Hunt, covers only the opening moments of the story. The full trailer is embedded below.
There’s more coming before launch, too. S-GAME has dated the dedicated State of Play it promised back in June, with a Phantom Blade Zero gameplay deep dive streaming August 17 at 7:00 PM Pacific (10:00 PM Eastern) on the PlayStation Twitch and YouTube channels. The studio says the broadcast will introduce never-before-seen characters central to the story and show how expressive players can be with individual builds, digging into the gameplay systems, combat, and the dark wuxia setting S-GAME calls the Phantom World. When the delay was announced, the studio pegged the deep dive at 15 to 20 minutes.
Preorders grant early unlock of the Treasure Basin accessory and the Legacy outfit, and both items can also be earned through in-game progression, so nothing is locked away for good. As I noted when preorders were dated, development on Phantom Blade Zero is already complete, almost twelve weeks out from release. Phantom Blade Zero launches October 29 on PlayStation 5 and PC.
