The team at Amazon Games behind New World: Aeternum has announced that the MMORPG will no longer receive new content updates. The game is celebrating its fourth anniversary on PC, and after four years of steady updates, Amazon Games says it’s no longer sustainable to continue supporting the game with new content. In other words, the company has decided to lay off a significant number of employees, according to a Bloomberg report.
This means Season 10 and the Nighthaven update will be the final content releases for New World on PC and consoles. While this is disappointing to the community, the game, for now, will remain playable, and servers will operate through 2026. Revision
Amazon promises to provide more details in the coming months, but New World: Aeternum will remain downloadable for PlayStation Plus members, and it is not sunsetting the game (for now). A team will continue to keep the game running smoothly, which means bug fixes and server merges are still possible.
For now, no changes are being made to the premium in-game currency, Marks of Fortune. Since the servers will stay up at least through 2026, players can continue to purchase and use in-game currency. Refunds aren’t available for Marks of Fortune purchases, but those who bought the game might be able to request a refund through customer support. As for seasonal events, world bosses, and bonus weeks, they will continue, but New World will no longer have holiday events.
We played New World when it launched in 2021, and I ended up spending over 125 hours with it. It had some interesting concepts, and parts of the game were fun in a group, but overall it didn’t offer enough to keep us around.
