In my recent first impressions of Morbid Metal, I pointed out that the Routines, meta-progression, and enemy design were the areas where the hack-and-slash roguelite needed the most work. Screen Juice and Ubisoft have now revealed the game’s full 2026 roadmap as part of the Find Your Next Game Showcase, and it looks like several of those concerns are being targeted. The team also confirmed that Morbid Metal is Steam Deck Verified as of today, so you can shapeshift mid-combat on the go in full resolution with controller support.

The roadmap breaks the year into four waves of updates. Major Update 1 in May is focused on an enemy systems update and new sub-biomes, which should help with the repetitive enemy design I called out at launch. Major Update 2 in early summer is the one I’m most interested in, as it brings new temporary upgrades, new permanent upgrades, a combo systems update, and aura farming. That targets a lot of the meta-progression and Routines feedback I had, where the upgrade choices just didn’t feel impactful enough.

Major Update 3 in late summer adds new paths in the Void, minigames, and a new Hero to unlock, while the fall/winter stretch promises new cinematics, more enemies, more boss fights, more lore, more loot, and, in Screen Juice’s words, more metal. The team has been clear that the roadmap is a guideline rather than a fixed plan, and updates will be shaped by community feedback throughout Early Access.

It’s a solid plan for the rest of 2026, and it’s exactly the kind of response I was hoping to see from Screen Juice given the state of the game at launch. Honestly, if the Major Update 2 changes land well, Morbid Metal has a real shot at becoming something I’d want to revisit for longer sessions rather than just short runs. For now, Morbid Metal is available on Steam for $17.99, and it’s playable on Steam Deck as of today.
