Graceful Decay spent the years after its 2021 recursive puzzle game Maquette thinking about a different kind of shift, and the result is Uncanyon, a puzzle-first adventure where alternate realities overlap in the same space instead of sitting side by side. It really caught my attention during today’s State of Play, and I think both the art and the concept look unique. The PlayStation Blog post from studio head and game director Hanford Lemoore only commits to PlayStation 5 in 2027, but publisher Annapurna Interactive’s announcement also lists XBOX Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store for the same year, and the Steam page is already live.
The setup is a forgotten world that emerged and once flourished in the folds of what the studio calls converging unparallel universes, and you play as Sonia, a stranger to the place who arrived looking for excitement and gradually pieces together not just how to survive Uncanyon but why it needs her. Graceful Decay is playing that as a personal story as much as a classic save-the-world adventure. The team says it drew on the pressure of family expectations and the invisible obligations of social media for the weight Sonia feels once she realizes what’s expected of her, and Annapurna’s release describes her as the land’s prophesied hero, whether she’s ready or not.
The mechanic Graceful Decay is most eager to talk about is Reality Fragments, which is where the unparallel realities idea turns into actual puzzles. Devices powered by a substance called fragmentstone are scattered around the world, and activating one transforms the space you’re standing in: obstacles move, hazards disappear, and paths that didn’t exist a moment ago suddenly do, with whole rooms morphing from one reality to another around you.

The twist is that the realities converge in Uncanyon rather than existing as separate places you travel between, so you can blend them in and out at will, freeze the blend at any point to explore the mixture you’ve created, and at certain points stand in multiple realities at the same time. A blocked doorway in one reality might be open in another at the cost of a hazard you now have to account for elsewhere, and learning which reality to be in and when is what Graceful Decay calls the core puzzle language of the game.
The temples and ruins carry forward what Graceful Decay calls its soft spot for spaces that reward close observation, but with sharper teeth. They were built to keep people out, packed with traps, locks, and puzzles left by whoever came before, and you work through them with tools and discoveries picked up along the way, building a small but versatile kit as you go. The stated goal is to take classic dungeon puzzles and elevate them from softball distractions to intricate mechanical traps and vaults, with solutions that only click once you’ve uncovered new aspects of the puzzle systems. Annapurna’s release adds that the journey runs through five bio-diverse, semi-open regions, with some mysteries stretching well beyond the main story.
Annapurna Interactive, which also published Maquette, is handling publishing again, and Graceful Decay is promising more on Sonia’s story, the regions, and how Reality Fragments evolve over the course of the game. Uncanyon launches in 2027 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
