Capcom had a huge presence at Summer Game Fest, using one of its spots to put a name and a release window on the Monster Hunter Wilds expansion it has been teasing since the game’s first anniversary. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance was announced during the show, set to launch worldwide in 2027 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC via Steam. It is the large-scale expansion producer Ryozo Tsujimoto pointed to back in February, when he confirmed Capcom was building something in the mold of Monster Hunter: World’s Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise’s Sunbreak and said more would follow over the summer.
According to Capcom, Ascendance continues the story of the Forbidden Lands, with the Expedition Team’s adventure carrying it to a new locale set among the clouds. The centerpiece is a high-altitude region of islands in the sky, where hunters gain new abilities that Capcom says evolve the gameplay. The studio framed the reveal as a first look, showing off new and returning monsters alongside refined mechanics.
On the difficulty side, Capcom confirmed the return of Elder Dragons and Master Rank content, the higher-difficulty tier that earlier expansions Iceborne and Sunbreak each brought to their base games.
Monster Hunter Wilds is out now on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC via Steam, and can also be purchased through the Capcom Town Store. We reviewed it at launch, and Capcom notes the base game is currently on sale for up to 58 percent off for anyone looking to gear up before Ascendance lands in 2027.
