The Metro franchise is coming back. Xbox announced that it will host Xbox First Look: Metro 2039 this Thursday, April 16, at 10:00 AM Pacific (1:00 PM Eastern), offering a world premiere look at the next entry in the post-apocalyptic first-person shooter series from 4A Games and Deep Silver.

Metro 2039 will be the fourth mainline title in the series based on the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky. The franchise kicked off with Metro 2033 in 2010, followed by Metro: Last Light in 2013 and Metro Exodus in 2019, all centered around survivors of nuclear devastation living in the Moscow subway tunnels and the world beyond them. It’s been seven years since Metro Exodus, so there’s been plenty of time for fans to wonder what’s next for the series.

The broadcast will be available as a YouTube Premiere with subtitle support in over 25 languages. There will also be separate streams with audio descriptions and American Sign Language on the Xbox YouTube channel.

Xbox specifically noted that it has “always been a home for the franchise,” which is a nice way to frame the reveal given that Metro games have historically launched across multiple platforms. Whether Metro 2039 will be an Xbox exclusive or will also land on PlayStation and PC (very likely) remains to be seen, but that’s likely something we’ll learn more about on Thursday.
