Firefly Online, which is heading to both the PC and Mac platforms, is currently scheduled to be released in summer 2014. io9 has an exclusive first look at the game which is being developed by Quantum Mechanix and Spark Plug Games.

Firefly Online will feature a “Free Flight Engine” that offers a reactive 3D user interface that will feature plenty of planets that players can interact with. Players will be able to choose from a multitude of ships and characters to customize in what is being billed as a “multi-user strategic roleplaying game.” In Firefly Online, you’ll assume the role of a ship captain and hire a crew to seek out adventures.

The game will also feature a “job-creation system where players will be able to craft adventures for other players to partake in,” according to Quantum Mechanix’s Andy Gore.
