If you’ve paid attention to FullCleared for any stretch of time, you already know I consider Final Fantasy VII Rebirth the best game I’ve ever played, so today’s State of Play had my full attention before it even started. Square Enix confirmed during the broadcast that Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final entry in the remake trilogy, launches on April 8, 2027. The date arrived alongside a new trailer and an extended gameplay deep dive.

In case you missed it the first time it was revealed, Revelation is launching simultaneously on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and XBOX on PC. When Rebirth hit PC in January 2025, I wrote that I hoped it would sell well enough to convince Square Enix to release the third game on PC the same day as consoles, and that’s exactly what’s happening. Rebirth needed nearly a year to reach PC and even longer to reach Switch 2 and XBOX, so a single launch date across everything is a first for this trilogy.

As for the game itself, Revelation opens up the entire planet, with the party exploring aboard the Highwind airship and riding Piko, a Chocobo who grows alongside the group and picks up new traversal and combat abilities along the way. Cid and Vincent join the roster as playable characters, and the combat system adds FITS, a role system built around Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner that grants new abilities and higher power ceilings. The gameplay deep dive shows Cid in the Knight FITS and Vincent in the Summoner FITS. Players can also swap their controlled character and full party makeup at any time while exploring, a new grappling gun handles rooftop traversal, and the party members you assign to certain quests will change how those scenarios play out. Critical Role’s Matthew Mercer returns as the voice of Vincent, who will be sharing scenes with castmate Travis Willingham after Willingham took over as Sephiroth for this entry.

Physical preorders are open now on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and Switch 2, with the Standard Edition at $69.99 and the Deluxe Edition at $99.99, which adds a mini soundtrack, an artbook, and a steelbook case. Day 1 Editions at select retailers include a Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy Final Showdown promo card, and Amazon’s version throws in a folded poster. The Collector’s Edition is a Square Enix Store exclusive at $349.99 and bundles the Deluxe contents with a premium statue of Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth, the Story Expansion Pass, and a stack of in-game items including the Polydroid Alexander summon materia.

Digital preorders are live on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC, with Switch 2 digital preorders opening at a later date. The Standard Edition runs $69.99, the Premium Edition is $99.99 and includes the Story Expansion Pass along with 24 hours of early access to the game, and the Premium Plus Edition is $109.99 with the digital soundtrack, digital artbook, and the extra in-game gear. Every digital edition comes with the Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle summon materia as a preorder incentive. There’s also a Trilogy Edition at $84.99 on PlayStation 5, XBOX, and PC that grants immediate access to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth ahead of Revelation. Existing save data unlocks bonuses too, with Intergrade saves granting the Chocobo & Moogle summon materia and a weapon skin set, and Rebirth saves adding the Phoenix summon materia and its own skin set.

The Story Expansion Pass covers two story-focused DLCs, one centered on Sephiroth and the other on Vincent and the Turks, planned for release between winter 2027 and spring 2028. The pass will be sold separately at launch, and both DLCs will be available individually after they release. For anyone catching up before April, both Intergrade and Rebirth now include a Streamlined Progression feature with options like unlimited HP and MP and an always-full ATB gauge.

In my Rebirth review, I said the game validated Square Enix’s decision to split the remake into three, mostly because of how much room it gave the characters to grow. April 8 is when we find out whether the finale holds up that argument. Full details are on the official Final Fantasy VII Revelation page.
