We finally have our first look at Tropico 7! Publisher Kalypso Media and developer Gaming Minds Studios have released the first gameplay teaser for the dictator city-builder, which was confirmed for a 2026 launch back in August 2025. Alongside the teaser, the team has also shared the first developer log, covering city building, the political matrix, constitutions, and edicts.

The gameplay clip offers a quick look at El Presidente shaping his island, with streets cutting through lively districts and mountains being reshaped to serve his ambitions. The teaser leans into the series’ signature dry humor, with the Ministry of Propaganda and Misinformation chiming in that “El Presidente doesn’t just govern… he orchestrates chaos with style.” That tone is really what makes Tropico stand out in the genre, and it’s good to see Gaming Minds keeping it front and center.

Kalypso and Gaming Minds also shared more details on some of the game’s features. Tropico 7 will include five campaign maps starring El Presidente, Penultimo, and a new nemesis named Victoria Guerra, along with 10 extra scenarios, more than 20 sandbox maps, and a random map generator. The new terraforming feature will let players erase mountains, create beaches, or even build entirely new islands. Face-to-face faction meetings, elections with speeches, a reworked military system with more direct unit control, and expanded customization for both the palace and El Presidente himself round out the headline additions.

We’ve been fans of the Tropico series for years, and while it’s never been a genre-defining heavyweight, it’s always a fun enough time thanks to the humor and the absurdity of playing as a dictator. I’m really looking forward to seeing what Gaming Minds Studios is cooking up for Tropico 7, especially since it’s been over five years since Tropico 6 launched. Tropico 7 is scheduled to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, and it will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
