It’s been over five years since Tropico 6 was released, and many fans wondered whether the series had been put out to pasture. Well, El Presidente is alive and well, as developer Gaming Minds Studios and publisher Kalypso Media have confirmed that Tropico 7 is slated for a 2026 launch. The city-builder puts a spin on the genre by casting players as a dictator, so keeping citizens happy may not be the priority. Oppression, after all, seems to be in style these days.

The next entry in the series will introduce several new features, some of which Gaming Minds Studios has already shared. For the first time in Tropico history, El Presidente will meet face-to-face with faction leaders to negotiate, manipulate, or charm his way to power. Veteran city-builder players will be excited to hear that Tropico 7 adds a new terraforming feature, allowing players to raise land, reroute rivers, or even create new parks. The game also adds a political affiliation system that lets players choose a dictatorship style, determining which edicts are available. Finally, the team teased a reworked military system, with more details to come.

When it launches, Tropico 7 will be available with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, as well as on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game will ship with five campaign maps, 10 extra scenarios, over 20 sandbox maps, and a random map generator.

We’ve enjoyed our time with previous installments of Tropico, as they offer a unique twist on city building. It will be interesting to see whether Tropico 7 can keep the series relevant in 2026.
