For years, I lost hope that a true successor to Telltale Games would ever arrive, especially considering how niche narrative-driven games have become. In a world where everyone is chasing the next soulslike or survivors-like, no one has ever bothered using the term Telltale-like. That’s not to say there haven’t been some attempts recently, including Lost Records: Bloom & Rage from earlier this year. They’ve just failed to capture the same magic that made Telltale’s storytelling so compelling.
Which is why I’ll take any excuse to talk about Dispatch. The debut title from AdHoc Studio, which is made up of former Telltale Games developers, really won me over last week when the final two episodes were released. While it doesn’t tell some groundbreaking story, the excellent writing and memorable characters deliver an experience I haven’t felt since Tales from the Borderlands. This was a game where I sat down and played through the first six episodes in less than 24 hours, at which point I joined many others in eagerly awaiting the final two episodes.
After selling over one million units in 10 days, Dispatch has now reached two million copies sold, and I couldn’t be happier. While I think it deserved more nominations than it received for The Game Awards 2025, I selfishly hope sales continue to grow because I want to see more from AdHoc Studio, even if it’s not a second season for Dispatch. I’ve loved these types of games ever since The Walking Dead, and I really hope to see more from the industry in years to come.
