Telltale Games, as we knew it from The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, is a thing of the past, but it looks like we finally have a real spiritual successor with AdHoc Studio. AdHoc Studio, originally established in 2018 by veterans from Telltale Games, Ubisoft, and Night School Studio, has seen its debut title, Dispatch, sell over one million copies in 10 days. It’s a great achievement, considering its episodic release means many people, myself included, are waiting for the conclusion before diving in.
The story-driven game centers on a superhero workplace where players must manage a dysfunctional team of misfit heroes. This involves figuring out which hero to send to emergencies around the city. The first two episodes debuted on October 22, and another two episodes will release each week until the conclusion on November 12. It’s a rollout that has worked in the past with Telltale Games and even Life Is Strange, but it’s been a while since a successful game used an episodic release. Dispatch stars a great cast of voice actors, including Aaron Paul, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, Matthew Mercer, and Jeffrey Wright.
As someone who loves classic Telltale Games, I’m really looking forward to checking out Dispatch. I’m being patient, though, and waiting to start it a couple of days before November 12.
