Believe it or not, The Wolf Among Us 2 finally has a release window. At Summer Game Fest, Telltale revealed that its long-delayed sequel is targeting 2027, and to tide fans over in the meantime, The Wolf Among Us Remastered will arrive this Holiday 2026. Telltale’s own announcement leaned into how improbable that sounds, more or less daring fans to throw the studio in the Wishing Well if it slips again.
The doubt is earned. The Wolf Among Us 2 was first announced back in 2019, then went quiet for years after the original Telltale collapsed in 2018 and was rebuilt under new ownership. AdHoc Studio, formed by former Telltale developers, was attached to the sequel until 2023 before the two parted ways, leaving the project in limbo all over again. A new trailer at the show put Bigby Wolf and Fabletown back in front of us, but the path here has been anything but smooth.
I have to be honest about my own reservations. I loved the original The Wolf Among Us, it’s one of my favorites from Telltale’s golden era, but I’m not fully sold that this version of the studio can do justice with the sequel. The revived Telltale’s first outing, The Expanse: A Telltale Series, left me cold. I adore The Expanse, and Camina Drummer is one of my favorite characters in it, yet I still walked away thinking the game was painfully average, to the point that I didn’t even bother reviewing it.
If there’s reason for optimism, it’s that the genre is healthier than it’s been in years. Fittingly, the AdHoc team that walked away from The Wolf Among Us 2 went on to make Dispatch, one of my favorite games of 2025 and proof that there’s a real, paying audience for this kind of storytelling. The open question is whether Telltale, in its current form, can deliver the Bigby sequel fans have waited over a decade for, or whether the remaster of the original ends up being the safer bet.
