August 5 is when The Division Resurgence stops being a test on PC. Ubisoft confirmed today that the free-to-play third-person shooter RPG arrives on Steam that day, and the Ubisoft Connect version officially launches at the same time after months in early access.

When I reviewed it back in March, my biggest takeaway was that it nailed the feel of a mainline Division so well that I kept wishing I was playing it on my PC. When Ubisoft opened PC early access in April, I said I’d give it a real shot, since my frustrations with menu navigation, touch controls, and the 60 FPS texture downgrade all read as platform problems rather than design ones. A proper PC build with a mouse and keyboard should take care of most of that.

The one complaint from the review a PC launch won’t fix is the progression gating. The main story is constantly locked behind level requirements, and hitting one of those walls means logging out and coming back the next day to run daily missions for enough XP to continue. It’s a mobile way of organizing a campaign, and it’s worth knowing about before you install it on a machine where you’d expect to sit down and push through.

For anyone catching up, The Division Resurgence turns New York City into a shared open world and carries the series’ PvPvE spaces like the Dark Zone and Conflict. The standalone story runs solo or with up to three other players, and there’s gear and weapon customization, multiple specializations with their own signature weapons and gadgets, and the option to switch roles whenever you want. Cross-play and cross-progression cover mobile and PC, so anything you do on one carries over to the other.

Ubisoft also published the PC spec sheet alongside the announcement, broken into four tiers running from 1080p at 30 FPS up to 4K at 60 FPS. As expected for a mobile-first game, the floor is low. The minimum tier runs on integrated graphics, the entire sheet caps out at DirectX 11 with no ray tracing requirement anywhere on it, and all four tiers ask for the same 8 GB of dual channel RAM. Even the 4K target tops out at a GTX 1660 Ti.

The Year 1 roadmap has new content landing every six weeks, including Speed Run challenges, cosmetic sets, Classified Ops passes, and a major story expansion further out. The Division Resurgence is free on iOS, Android, and PC, and it’s available to wishlist on Steam ahead of August 5.
